TECHNICAL DATA SHEET
PRODUCT NAME |
VanGuard 10
|
DESCRIPTION |
VanGuard 10 is a clear water-based, two-component, aliphatic polyurethane
coating, designed to provide a permanent barrier to graffiti and marking
on masonry, concrete, previously painted surfaces and signwriting.
VanGuard 10 has been specifically designed to leave the appearance of the
protected surface unaltered, does not darken decorative concrete and masonry
and will not "yellow" on exposure to sunlight.
VanGuard 10 is resistant to most aggressive cleaning agents, including strong
solvents, proprietary Graffiti Removers, mild alkalis and some paint strippers.
This allows almost all graffiti to be removed readily. Some graffiti media
may need a combination of removers for complete removal.
VanGuard 10 is effective as a sealer for timber and other porous surfaces,
but should not be considered a clear finish for timber exposed to direct
weathering. |
SURFACE
PREPARATION |
Surface must be dry, clean and free from dust, loose particles, grease and
oil, etc. Cleaning with high-pressure water (e.g. Gerni) is recommended prior
to application of VanGuard 10.
Concrete, particularly horizontal slabs, off-form or horizontally cast items
must be thoroughly cleaned to remove release oils and acid etched to remove
laitance. |
| MIXING |
Mix Part "A" with 5% by volume Part "B" immediately prior to use (i.e.
20 parts "A" to one part "B"). Do not mix any more than can be used within
one day. Do not pour mixed material back in with unmixed. Mixed material
left for more than 24 hours may be reactivated by adding a further 5% Part
"B". |
APPLICATION |
VanGuard 10 may be applied by brush, roller or airless spray; spray application
is recommended, especially for porous or textured surfaces. Conventional
spray or H.V.L.P. is highly recommended for "quartz chip" and "exposed
aggregate"-type surfaces, to aid penetration of the VanGuard 10 to the base
of the profile. It may be applied as a single coat at straight from the can
or the first coat of a two-coat application may be thinned by up to 50% with
clean water to aid penetration and sealing of particularly porous substrates. |
COVERAGE |
Approximately 12m² per litre, depending upon the porosity of the surface
to be protected. As a guide, sandstone may achieve only 8m² per litre,
"chip"-style finishes as little as 3 - 4 m² per litre, whereas over
existing coatings, 14-16 m² may be expected. |
DRYING
TIME |
Touch dry in approximately 4 hours. Recoat in 16 hours. If the temperature
is between 8 and 15º C, allow 48 hours before recoating. Do not apply
below 8 º C or above 85% Relative Humidity. |
